About This Guide

This all-in-one page replaces the separate Revolver Fit Guide, Semi-Auto Fit Guide, and Sizing pages. It covers 175+ firearms — revolvers, semi-autos, 1911 patterns, scoped hunting revolvers, and pistols with weapon lights — with exact Denali® holster model, size, and barrel length option for each one.

The XL Revolver is a physically larger holster designed for oversized revolver frames that do not fit the standard Revolver size. It is currently offered in two barrel length options (6 3/4" and 8 3/8"), with a third size (5 1/4") coming soon. XL Revolver models include the Chiappa Rhino, Taurus Raging Hunter (unscoped), Taurus Raging Judge, S&W 500, S&W 460 XVR, S&W 350 Legend, S&W PC Competitors (unscoped), Magnum Research BFR, Gary Reeder 500 Maximum BMF, Rossi Brawler, Thompson Center Encore, and Thompson Center Contender. Guns like the Ruger Super Redhawk and Freedom Arms Model 83 fit the standard Revolver holster.

How to Measure Your Barrel Length

Revolvers

  1. Unload and clear completely
  2. Open and lock the cylinder open
  3. Measure from the face of the cylinder to the muzzle end of the barrel
  4. Do NOT include the cylinder
  5. Select the matching or next longer size

Semi-Autos

  1. Unload and clear completely
  2. Lock the slide open
  3. Measure from the muzzle to the front face of the slide
  4. Do NOT include muzzle devices
  5. Select the matching or next longer size
Reflex sight / red dot — important: On a revolver, a red dot mounted within the cylinder area fits the Standard Denali®. A scope or red dot extending past the cylinder requires the Denali® HUNTER. On a semi-auto, the optic should sit at or before the front of the barrel — this is standard placement and fits the cut-down without issue.  |  Between two sizes? Always pick the longer option.

Strap Sizing & How to Wear

Correct Position

Wear on the center of your chest over your sternum. Adjust shoulder strap front or back to raise or lower. Slide the swivel back piece to center of your back so your core carries the weight.

How Tight

Snug against your rib cage. Should not shift or flop. A snug fit enables the one-handed quick draw. If it moves during the draw stroke, tighten slightly.

With Pack or Binos

Slide the holster under your arm when bino harness or chest pack is in use. Still accessible for a quick draw. Slim back panel is designed not to interfere with backpack shoulder straps.

Trimming Excess

Enough nylon for a 56" chest (4XL). Once fitted correctly, trim excess with scissors then burn the cut end with a lighter to permanently prevent fraying.

Size range: Fits 31" to 56" chest (XS–4XL) and heights up to 6'8".  |  Need more strap? Select the Extended Strap option at checkout for approximately 6 extra inches — available on all three Denali® models at no extra charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing Your Holster
What is the difference between Standard, HUNTER, and LIGHT?
The Denali® Standard ($99.99) fits most revolvers (9 barrel length options including XL sizes) and semi-autos without accessories. The Denali® HUNTER ($149.99, was $164.99) fits revolvers with a scope or red dot mounted past the cylinder, up to 8 3/8". The Denali® LIGHT ($109.99) fits semi-autos with a tactical light or laser under the barrel rail. All three are ballistic nylon and made in Alaska.
What is an XL Revolver size and how does it differ from a standard revolver size?
The XL Revolver is a physically larger holster built for oversized revolver frames that are too large for the standard Revolver holster. It is not simply a longer barrel option — it is a different, bigger holster designed specifically for those frame sizes. It currently comes in two barrel length options: 6 3/4" and 8 3/8", with a 5 1/4" option coming soon. XL Revolver models include the Chiappa Rhino, Taurus Raging Hunter (unscoped), Taurus Raging Judge, S&W 500, S&W 460 XVR (unscoped), S&W 350 Legend, S&W PC Competitors (unscoped), Magnum Research BFR, Gary Reeder 500 Maximum BMF, Rossi Brawler, Thompson Center Encore, and Thompson Center Contender. Guns like the Ruger Super Redhawk and Freedom Arms Model 83 fit the standard Revolver holster.
The Taurus Raging Hunter has a rail on top — which holster do I need?
The Taurus Raging Hunter and similar revolvers with a Picatinny rail on top of the barrel (like the S&W Performance Center Competitors) can use either holster depending on your setup:

No optic / optic not mounted: Use the Denali® Standard — select the XL revolver barrel length option (6 3/4" or 8 3/8").

Red dot or scope mounted past the cylinder: Standard placement on a rail extends the optic past the cylinder, which means you need the Denali® HUNTER. If you use an aftermarket low-profile mount that keeps the optic within the cylinder area, the standard Denali® may still fit — contact us to confirm.
What holster fits the S&W / Smith & Wesson Performance Center Competitor 629 or 686?
The S&W Performance Center Competitor 629 and 686 both feature a rail on top of the barrel for mounting a red dot. Without an optic: Use the Denali® Standard at the appropriate barrel length. With a red dot mounted in the standard position (past the cylinder): Use the Denali® HUNTER. If you have a question about your specific setup, call us at (907) 205-4429.
My pistol has a weapon light. Which holster?
Any semi-auto with a TLR-1, TLR-2, X300, Streamlight, or similar light or laser under the barrel requires the Denali® LIGHT ($109.99). Popular fits: Glock 17/19/20 with light, Sig P320 with light, Springfield XD-M with light, Walther PDP with light.
Will a red dot or reflex sight on my semi-auto still fit?
Yes — all Denali® double-stack semi-auto holsters include a reflex sight cut-down standard at no extra charge. Your Holosun, RMR, Deltapoint, or similar optic fits without modification. This applies to all generations of all supported pistols.
Single-Stack vs. Double-Stack — which do I choose for my semi-auto?
Single-Stack fits slim 1911-pattern pistols without a rail. Double-Stack fits the vast majority of modern semi-autos — Glocks, M&Ps, XD-Ms, Sigs, Berettas, H&Ks, CZs, and others. If you have a railed 1911, choose double-stack. When in doubt, choose double-stack. Both available in 5" and 6" barrel lengths.
Strap Sizing & Fit
Where should the strap system sit?
The Denali® is designed to be worn on the center of your chest over your sternum. Adjust the shoulder strap in the front or back to raise and lower the holster. Slide the innovative swivel back piece to the center of your back — this ensures your body core carries the weight so the holster does not sag or flop.
I am a big guy — will this holster fit me?
Yes. Standard out-of-the-box the Denali® fits up to a 56" chest (4XL) and height of 6'8". If you need about 6 additional inches of strap, select the Extended Strap option at checkout. No extra charge. Available on all three models.
How do I use the holster with binoculars or a backpack?
Simply slide the Denali® under your arm when your bino harness or chest pack is in use. The holster remains accessible for a quick draw. The slim back panel is engineered so that backpack shoulder straps do not create pressure points.
What do I do with the excess nylon strap?
Once correctly fitted — with room for winter layering — trim any excess with scissors then burn the cut end with a match or lighter. This melts the synthetic fibers and permanently prevents fraying.
Barrel Length
How do I measure my barrel length?
Revolvers: Measure from the face of the cylinder to the muzzle. Do not include the cylinder.  |  Semi-autos: Measure from the muzzle to the front face of the slide. If between two options, choose the longer size.
What barrel length options are available at checkout?
Revolvers: 3", 4 5/8", 5 1/2", 6", 6 1/2", 6 3/4", 7 1/2", 8", 8 3/8". The 6 3/4" and 8 3/8" (XL) options include reflex sight cut-down standard.  |  Semi-Autos: 5" and 6", each in single-stack and double-stack. All double-stack options include reflex sight cut-down standard.
General Questions
What is the best chest holster for bear country?
The Denali® Standard ($99.99) fits the most common bear defense guns: Glock 20 10mm (all generations), Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Mag and .454 Casull (unscoped), S&W 629 .44 Mag, S&W 500. For scoped revolvers in bear country, use the Denali® HUNTER ($149.99). All Denali® holsters are waterproof ballistic nylon, designed and tested in Alaska.
